Stephen Dorrell
- Stephen Dorrell has lived in Worcester all his life. He was a Conservative MP from 1979 to 2015; he was appointed as a junior health minister by Margaret Thatcher and served as Health Secretary in John Major’s Cabinet.
- 2010 to 2014 he was Chair of the Health Committee of the House of Commons and
- 2015 to 2019 he chaired the NHS Confederation.
- 2016 he co-founded the campaign for a People’s Vote on the Brexit terms negotiated by Boris Johnson.
Now the Liberal Democrat candidate in Bedwardine for the Worcestershire County Council, Stephen says:
“I joined the party of Ted Heath, Margaret Thatcher and John Major, but their values are no longer represented by the factions of the modern Conservative Party, still less by the Trumpian politics of Reform.
“I believe the Liberal Democrats have become the natural home of those who want to see competent, caring government”.
